Industry experts to share their insights
Local pilot programmes and international radio frequency identification (RFID) initiatives used by companies such as Wal-Mart, Sony and Gillette will form part of today's conference at the JW Marriott Hotel, organised by GSI Hong Kong and EPCglobal Hong Kong.
The one-day conference, which is expected to attract more than 700 delegates, will include speakers from key stakeholders along the supply chain, spanning manufacturers, the logistics sector, distribution centres, retailers and leading drivers in world-class supply chain management.

Conference presenters include David Lee, vice-general engineer of Central Research Institute of Haier Group; Tatsuya Yoshimura, Sony Corporation RFID research and promotion manager at the Global Supply Chain Management Department, Production Strategy Division; Shinichi Ishii, Nomura Research Institute, senior consultant, Business Transformation; and Simon Langford, Wal-Mart director, RFID Strategy and Transportation Systems.
BEA Systems, one of the world's leading application infrastructure software companies and a key supporter of EPC technology standards, believes EPC provides advantages for suppliers across the Pearl River Delta region.
Ken Traub, BEA Systems RFID and Edge Servers chief technology officer, said businesses could benefit from using automated identification to raise the efficiency of their enterprise operations.
According to Fredy Cheung, managing director, South China Cisco Systems, the company would continue to support the EPC global standard.

Wing Ho, manager, Global Midmarket Business, IBM China/Hong Kong, said he believed RFID and EPC technology was an increasingly important solution in tracking key inventory and when used innovatively, could increase security and business resilience.
'IBM has been working with industry-leading partners to deliver innovative solutions based on the EPC network infrastructure, improving the way businesses and people interact and collaborate,' Mr Ho said.
