'I reckon life should be happy and I would like to add colour to people's lives,' says Lun.

'Chim was surprised that I could make jokes, like suddenly launching into some Beethoven or doing a song in the wrong key.'

Lun hopes some laughter will help lighten the mood because some people may feel sad when he performs songs made famous by Mui, who died from cervical cancer in 2003.

He also plans to inject the gig with a carnival atmosphere, with strong beats and a blend of Brazilian and African music.

Lun graduated from the University of Michigan with a master's degree in music in 1983. He started performing live in Detroit with his band, Fingers in the Clouds, but returned to Hong Kong in 1986 and signed to what was then Capital Artists. 'I was doing R&B at that time,' he says. 'That is my roots.'

The high point of Lun's career came in 1991, when he won Commercial Radio's award for best male singer for his hit songs Man Behind the Piano and Heart Is Still Cold.

After 1997, he toured the world and worked as a music producer at local concerts, but when he converted to Buddhism he says he had less desire for money and was more selective with projects.

He made a return to centre-stage in 2002, when he performed with Sandy Lam and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. 'I studied my own vocals and saw there were many grounds that needed improvement,' he says.
