Police stuck with captive audience

A debt collector, his debtor, two police officers and four medics were trapped for about 10 minutes when a lift broke down yesterday in Yau Ma Tei. The officers had been called after a fight broke out when the debt collector arrived at a flat on the 14th floor of the Ho Kwan Building, Jordan Road, claiming to be a triad member and demanding money from the resident. Both were arrested and treated for minor injuries at Kwong Wah Hospital after the group was freed by firemen.

three hurt by suspected triads outside nightclub

Three people were injured when a group of nine men and two women aged between 15 and 33 were ambushed by suspected members of the 14K triad gang. The victims were attacked with rods and torches after they came out of a disco near the corner of Mongkok Road and Portland Street at 7.30am. One woman and two men were injured, one of whom scuffled with police and was arrested. All three were treated at Kwong Wah Hospital.

businesswoman on drug charge

Philippine businesswoman Evelyn Ayad Bugaay, 49, appeared at Tsuen Wan Court charged with trafficking a dangerous drug after 3kg of cocaine was found in her rucksack at the airport. She arrived from Ghana via Ethiopia and Thailand on Saturday. The case was adjourned until next week.

student critical after dip

An exchange student from Ireland was in a serious condition at Prince of Wales Hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at Chinese University in Sha Tin at 2.30am. The woman, 20, was pulled out of the swimming pool by friends.

stabbing on footbridge

A cyclist stabbed a female pedestrian, 40, on a footbridge in Kam Shan Road, Tai Po, just after 3pm. The victim had a 10cm-long metal rod removed at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.
