Take steps to help stop global warming

Global warming causes many problems. For example, it changes the world's climate. Many people in developing countries do not have air conditioners and suffer from rising temperatures caused by global warming.

It also causes typhoons, acid rain and floods, which endanger lives.

How can we protect ourselves from global warming? We should use air conditioners only when necessary. Big shopping centres should turn off their air conditioners when there are not many shoppers. Children should be educated about the dangers of global warming and learn to protect the environment.

KWONG PAT-KI

Thanks for your letter, Pat-ki. As we move into the hot summer season, this is the perfect time to talk about energy wastage.

Air conditioners account for a large part of most household electricity bills. I know that my electricity bill is almost double in the summer and that's because of my air conditioner! This summer I'm going to try to use the air conditioner less. I have a ceiling fan and will try to use that more.

Just turning the air conditioner down a little this summer - or even off altogether - will make a difference to our environment.
