Get A Life: Eason Chan Live in Hong Kong, is a live recording of songs from the singer's sold-out concert series in February. It's evidence of the Canto-pop artist's maturity.
Chan clearly knows his forte. He never tries to be a singer-songwriter - a goal that may be beyond his reach. Some of his best songs feature lyrics written by Wyman Wong Wai-man and Lin Xi. Since entering show business in 1995, Chan has focused on improving his vocal talent.
His dedication has paid off. Given the poor quality of the current crop of Canto-pop singers - and the loss of creative energy - he is probably the most popular male singer in Hong Kong today.
Aside from his formulaic pop ballads, many of Chan's most popular hits are intensely personal. Songs such as Big Girl, which he has dedicated to his two-year-old daughter, and Bicycle, a Canto-pop ballad that describes a father-and-son relationship, will touch your heart, thanks to Chan's full-bodied performance.
Chan's love of music is evident in the fast-tempo and bouncy tracks Forget the Lyrics and Listen.
His broad vocal range has made him a versatile singer who can handle songs from a wide variety of styles, such as the electronic 2001 Space Odyssey, the nostalgic 1874 and the Latin-flavoured Tango Alone.
The album ends with Always Be With Me, Chan's first big hit. The song provides a moment of nostalgia and also celebrates the birth of a new Canto-pop king.
