Pearl ardour

Many of Coco Chanel's favourite symbols have been incorporated into the brand's jewellery, ranging from the camellia and four-leafed clover to the quilted Matelasse pattern and stars. Coco's favourite accessories - pearls - make an appearance in the latest collection, Les Perles de Chanel. Comprising 64 pieces, the range includes the Fleur De Perle earrings (above right; $525,000), which feature South Sea pearls accentuated with diamond-encrusted camellias and vegetal motifs. The Cristaux Perles necklace (above left; $2.88 million) and matching earrings ($424,000) are inspired by 1930s design, with fibre-optic clusters of pearls suspended from diamond-encrusted stems. The collection is on show until May 3 at Chanel, Prince's Building, Central, tel: 2869 4898.
