On style, she rules

Can you please suggest alternatives to shops such as J's, Chow Tai Fook et al for platinum or white-gold wedding bands? We're looking for something simple (definitely not Chrome Hearts) yet with an edge that separates it from the masses.

Ring Leader, Tseung Kwan O

The Dictator rules: Come on. Why bother with the ring tradition if you don't want anyone to know you're married? That's why you want an alternative and you know it. If you like playing games that much, go to Georg Jensen (shop 2082, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7180). You'll love the Fusion line, a series of rings that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle ($4,950 each, or $12,600 with diamonds). It also

has distinctive yet understated designs in white gold and platinum (and diamonds if you like) such as the triangular Pavilion or the Twist (from $3,300 to $5,500). Just ask to see the Bridal Collection book for inspiration. The LS Collection (shop 1006, IFC Mall, tel: 2810 1678) might also appeal. It carries sleek rings in platinum or white gold with modern, unfussy details ($3,400 to $5,500). Conveniently, both stores also handle bridal registries.

For something more out there, visit the new store of Hong Kong designer Edward Chiu (shop 2023, IFC Mall, tel: 3115 1288). His creations usually use black, white or coloured jade inspired by the clean lines of art deco.

Where can I get racerback tank tops for my big shoulders?

Speed Racer, Macdonnell Road

The Dictator: A racerback tank top will only make your shoulders more prominent - that's why people

like them. Let's start at the high end. Boss by Hugo Boss makes plain, 100 per cent cotton tank tops in white or acid green ($990; shop 226, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 1833). That's a lot to pay for a cotton singlet, but you can feel the difference in quality. A good one-stop source is Seibu (Pacific Place, tel: 2971 3713). It has some classic ribbed racerback tanks with crystal graphics such as the Rolling Stones' tongue logo and an image of pin-up queen Betty Page ($290). In the

same shop, Ecko offers a few fun twists on the original (from $190 to $210). Seibu also has active styles by the likes of Stella McCartney for Adidas ($600 to $650). If that's what you want, visit Marathon Sports (shop 125, Pacific Place, tel: 2524 6992), where you'll find the kind of clothing that screams, 'I work out, really I do': Reebok (from $129) and Nike (about $250). Bargain shoppers can visit any market underwear stall. They generally sell unembellished white cotton T-shirts and tank tops. You could, for example, stroll to Wan Chai's Tai Yuen Street and find them for as little as $8 to $13 each.

I doubt you can help me, but I was on the bus the other day and saw two trendy local girls showing each other their bracelets. Each had a different name cut out of the plastic, if you know what I mean. Where can I get one made with my name?

Nameless, North Point

The Dictator: Thanks for sending me on this wild goose chase - no, really. It gave me the opportunity to rediscover the strange and wondrous world of local fashion malls. We drew a blank at places such as Rise Commercial Building (5 Granville Circuit, Tsim Sha Tsui) and the Island Beverly Centre (1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay), but finally got lucky. At the lesser-known Causeway Place, U.Port Design (shop 128, 1/F, 1 Yee Woo Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 8103 2968) makes personalised accessories, including plastic cuffs or bangle bracelets ($220). Basically, staff take a strip of plastic, carve out your name in a cursive font then bend it into a bracelet - it takes about one week. You can even have crystals attached. Is that what you're after? They do Carrie Bradshaw-type necklaces too (from $120 to $180), also in plastic. U.Port also has two Mongkok stores (shop 20, Level 11, Langham Place, 8 Argyle Street; and shop 251, 2/F, Phase 1, Argyle Centre, 688 Nathan Road).
