Breathalyser, sir? It's free ...

Felix Chan

Not sure if you have had one drink too many? Police with breathalysers will offer free tests as part of a city-wide road safety campaign being launched today.

Road safety teams will patrol bar areas, inviting drivers to test their alcohol level before they drive. Those over the legal limit will be cautioned not to drive.

During the five-day campaign, police will also distribute leaflets advising drivers on road safety, especially the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Latest police figures show there were 3,348 traffic accidents in the January-March period this year, 217 cases fewer than in the same period last year. Of the cases, 16 involved drink-driving.
