Charlie makes time for Mum

Tomorrow is Mother's Day - a time to celebrate with every mother in the world. And actress Charlie Young Choi-neihopes she can spend more time with her mother and family.

'I always treat my mother well. I'm the only child in my family and we're very close - like sisters,' said Young, 31. 'As we get older, we neglect our family because we're busy. But I now realise how important my family is.'

The star of Seven Swords and All About Love, who is also a Unicef ambassador, last month took a field trip with the children's fund to Guizhou province, accompanied by friend and actress Gigi Leung Wing-kei (pictured, left, with Young).

The pair spent a week in one of the poorest areas on the mainland, exploring the health problems and hardship faced by children and women. Earlier this week they shared their experiences with Hong Kong secondary school students.

'There are some pregnant women who can't go to the clinic for a check-up and labour because they are too poor,' she said. They also visited health facilities set up by the charity to reduce mainland child and maternal mortality.
