To loos they trek

Steve Cray

Baptist University students Linda Lee Tsz-ling, 22, and Gary Ho Siu-kei, 23, are flushed with pride - for they have his and hers matching artistic loos. Mr Ho's (pictured) is awash with blue, the decor being based on the sea, while Ms Lee's is femininely curvy and pink, its lines inspired by the Spanish architect Gaudi. The closets were opened this week at a ceremony attended by Dr Lo Wing-lok and Henry Hung, vice-president and secretary of the Hong Kong Toilet Association.

The pair won the opportunity to design their own campus toilets by coming first in a contest titled 'My Dream Restroom' during an extra-curricular design course last summer. They beat about 10 other students to see their ideas become reality. Mr Ho, who is studying humanities, said his closet was based on physics research shining light at the focal point of a concave lens to produce a blurry image. 'It's based on the sea, the biggest toilet in the world,' he added. Ms Lee, a public relations and advertising student, said that while her washroom was inspired by Gaudi, she also wanted an Alice in Wonderland feel, with each cubicle door having silvered mirrors on the outside.
