On style, she rules

I need a simple pencil skirt in dark blue or black. I don't like those puffy big skirts that are so in now.

Straight And Narrow, Sheung Wan

The Dictator rules: No, what you need are manners.

I usually receive questions, not demands. Lanvin (The Landmark, Central, tel: 2525 3337) has what you're looking for in classic black ($8,100) and beautifully constructed blue with a thick, black elastic waistband ($7,900). If you're in that league, you might also like the offerings at Armani Collezioni and Yves Saint Laurent. Boss by Hugo Boss (G107, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui,

tel: 2735 1926) sells a casual jeans-cut black pencil skirt ($3,300), as well as a slightly shorter one ($2,400), which will reach the knees of anyone who needs a ladder to reach the top shelf. Agnes B Femme (shop 256, Pacific Place, Admiralty, hotline: 2805 6222) carries two no-brainers in black polyester ($1,990) and one, our favourite, in a neat cotton/poly/elastic mix ($1,590). For something cheap and chic, we often turn to Giordano Ladies (H1, Queensway Plaza, Admiralty, tel: 2922 1090), where the latest collection features to-the-knee black skirts in polyester crepe ($395) and cotton ($365).

I read somewhere that beauty products with honey are good. Where can I buy some?

Bee Stung, Central

The Dictator: Oh, how I would love to tell you to find a bee hive and hit it with a big stick. By the sounds of it, you'd do it. First, don't let a label fool you; a product may have 'honey' in its name but that doesn't mean it's one of the ingredients. Next, decide what kind of product you need and what you want it to achieve. We recently discovered Propoline by Apivita (Seibu, Pacific Place, hotline: 2113 2864), whose key ingredient is propolis, the substance bees produce to create a sterile, protective wall in the hive. The brand's skin- and hair-care products (from $90 to $240) for adults and children are also made with honey, beeswax and a variety of natural extracts. L'Occitane (shop 270, Ocean Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2730 5020) offers the Honey Harvest line ($35 to $310), which is made with a blend of propolis, honey and royal jelly to strengthen, nourish and moisturise the skin. Then, of course, there's Burt's Bees (Mannings, shop 1011, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2891 0620). The line includes Beeswax Lip Balm ($50), Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme ($150), Royal Jelly Eye Creme ($190), Moisturising Creme ($220) and more. Maybe you read about the Savannah Bee Co. in American Vogue? The brand is not available in Hong Kong yet, but you can check it out at www.savannahbee.com.

I like to look unique and in style, like celebrities. I read a lot of them wear a brand called Issa. Is it here?

Issa So Easy, Kennedy Road

The Dictator: A flawed methodology. Celebrities are often attractive enough to carry off even the silliest of looks - you may not be. Luckily, Issa specialises in stylish print dresses. Often made from comfortable yet elegant silk jersey, Issa comes in unusual prints and distinctive colours. Brazilian designer and founder Daniella Helayel has a dress-up or dress-down approach to style, so you can wear Issa from the beach to the office. One more thing before I divulge Issa's details: the knee-length dress has become the disastrous bum-wrapping cardigan of the new millennium. Wearing trousers underneath one won't make your bum or legs look smaller. Please, either wear it as a dress or not at all. Promise? OK: Issa dresses are priced from $1,650 to $4,390 (Seibu, Pacific Place, tel: 2971 3713).
