Forget The Da Vinci Code. If you want to get biblical, go see Godspell, opening tonight at the Shouson Theatre. The genre-bending off-Broadway musical is based on the Gospel according to Matthew. To top it off, they found an actor who actually had a god complex to play Jesus Christ.

'I was so young and arrogant when I first came to China in 1996,' says Londoner Jamie Francis (right, and as Christ, left). 'It was a real eye-opener. I just finished theatre school and was hired for The Opium War. I was in Guangzhou for three months and it was a total culture shock. I thought I was such a big person when I was actually a small fish in a really big pond.'

Since then, Francis has found spiritual peace. He's now a Kabbalah follower. 'The Kabbalah's spiritualism was a motivation for me to do Godspell.'

Godspell is on May 18 to 20, and 24 to 27.
