Art studio in the heart of Kwun Tong
The city's newest and most exciting contemporary art space is in ... Kwun Tong? Yep. The Osage Contemporary Art Space, founded by Agnes Lin-yin, is a 7,000-sq-ft warehouse studio capable of housing all manner of installations and it is based in the heart of an industrial area.
'It would have been totally inconceivable to realise this kind of space in Central,' says its art consultant, Jonathan Thomson (above). 'Kwun Tong has already been developed by some artists and with the opening of the studio we expect that a critical mass will follow to support the art studios that already exist in the area.'
Call this the East Kowloon cultural project? Osage held an opening this week to introduce the location to the media and proclaim its aim to present innovative, exciting and cutting-edge contemporary art. 'Here we can handle any medium and, yes, it'll be great for throwing parties too. We do use it for that purpose after hours some nights,' Thomson says.
The Osage Contemporary Art space is on the fourth floor of the Union Hing Yip Industrial Building, 20 Hing Yip Street, Kwun Tong. Take the MTR exit B2 and turn left at McDonald's.
