Shooting up the bar

For whom the bell tolls? At Typhoon, it tolls for everybody. That's Typhoon as in the new little Wan Chai pub as opposed to the non-storm that brushed past Hong Kong on Wednesday. Anyway, they wanted us to know they've now installed a big new warning bell - not for any sudden weather disturbance, but more for unexpected libation surprises. Patrons who ring the bell can buy everyone in the bar a round of shooters for $500. So, whether there are 10 people or 100, everyone in the house gets a free shot on you. The idea is to make the ordinary barfly feel like a big shot. Igor's Group, which manages Typhoon, at 37 Lockhart Road, says there are no restrictions on how many times it's rung by the same person or how many times it's rung each night.

No doubt there'll be much nightly abuse as sobriety levels decrease.
