Boys confess to throwing bins on classmates

THREE eight-year-old boys yesterday confessed to throwing plastic bins from a fifth-floor school window onto 400 classmates assembled below, injuring eight of them.

The incident at the Sheng Kung Hui Kei Hin Primary School, Ngau Tau Kok, on Monday was thought to have been done by a man seen running from the building.

However, the school's principal, Tse Chang-keung, said the three boys surrendered to his office yesterday morning after he appealed for witnesses.

''I first informed their parents and then called police, who took them to Sau Mau Ping police station for further inquiries,'' he said.

and told to report back next Wednesday.

Mr Tse said the trio had lied to teachers that they were helping a pupil clean the classrooms on Monday so that they could play on the fifth floor.

''They then went to the toilet to wash their hands and they began to play in the classrooms after that. I was told the reason they had thrown the bins down was because they wanted to try the experience of throwing something down,'' he said.

The school was unlikely to penalise them heavily because they had admitted their wrongdoing and promised not to do it again, he said.

The incident occurred at about 12.45 pm on Monday when 400 pupils of the afternoon school were lining up at the playground. Suddenly, six plastic bins and a flowerpot rained down on them.
