The spice is right

Popular Sheung Wan noodle shop Malaymama recently opened a second branch (below), in Causeway Bay. Owner Rani Lau Ying and her Malaysian-Chinese husband have expanded the menu from Ipoh ho fun ($33-$53), prawn mee ($35-$56) and special laksa (with prawns, cockles, chicken and fish cake, $58) to include authentic Malaysian delicacies such as bakuteh ($33), Hakka yang tau

foo ($33) and Malaysian curried lamb chops ($45). Tea sets are a bargain and range from kaya (coconut jam) toast with Malaysian coffee ($12) to fried chicken wings with a barley drink ($15).

The new Malaymama is at shop C, Shining Building, 477 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2117 2122.
