Sun Yat-sen. He was a brave person who started the 1911 revolution and ended feudalism in China. A good political leader should have the courage to carry out reforms, not just sit back and talk without doing anything. His 10 failures did not discourage him, but made him work even harder. He eventually helped build a modern China.

I admire Emperor Kangxi most. He was the most successful ruler I've ever studied about. He was a great leader and one of the three emperors who represented the Qing Dynasty. He was so famous that stories about him were passed on for centuries. We are still familiar with him. This is the best proof of his greatness.

Ma Ying-jeou. The Taipei city mayor won a landslide victory in the hotly contested battle for the chairmanship of the Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang. Dr Ma is well-known in Taiwan for his whole-hearted promotion of the spirit of law. And his governance shows what a leader should be like.

Sun Yat-sen. His revolution was the forerunner of modern democracies. 'The Father of China' had three major influences on his country. First, he set up revolutionary bases in different places. Second, he created the 'Three Principles of the People' which have become part of our lives nowadays. Lastly, after 10 failures, he finally overthrew the Qing Dynasty.

Patrick Lee Pak-chuen, 17

La Salle College It has to be Winston Churchill. The former British prime minister was respected throughout the world. In 1953, he won the Noble Prize for Literature. His life was devoted to politics and literature, and I really admire him for being successful in both endeavours at the same time.

Mahatma Gandhi. He criticised the British government which ruled India at the time. Gandhi helped people fight for their rights in a peaceful way. His endeavours eventually liberated India from British colonialism.

'The Father of China' Sun Yat-sen, who led the 1911 Revolution. This great revolution ended the 2000-year monarchy and helped build up the country. He actively promoted democracy. He faced difficulties during the revolution and even had to flee the country, but he was undaunted. Although the revolution was not completely successful, he occupies an important place in history and became a role model for future generations.
