firemen foil suicide bid by elderly man

Firemen abseiled down from a 37th-floor flat to rescue an elderly man, 81, who threatened to jump from the floor below at Riviera Garden in Yi Hong Street, Tsuen Wan, at about 2.30pm. Police said the man wanted to kill himself because of an illness. He was sent to Yan Chai Hospital for a medical check-up.

Residential flat burgled

Local and foreign currency, gold ornaments and about 500 stamps, worth $35,100, were stolen from a residential flat in Catchick Street, Harbour View Garden in Kennedy Town yesterday. Police were called in when a tenant found the front door and gate prised open at about 12.30pm.

stolen car torched

A car reported stolen in Kowloon City on Friday was torched and the fire spread to four goods vans parked nearby in a Shung Shun Street car park in Yau Tong at about 5am..
