Chamber reaction

About 400 members and friends of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce gathered at the Grand Hyatt for the annual ball, which this year had the theme Monet's Garden Under the Stars. The ballroom was decorated for the night with impressionist-inspired paintings by students at the Canadian International School.

Besides being a glamorous occasion, the event last month also raised funds for Unicef and the Nesbitt Centre, which helps local adults with learning disabilities. A highlight was an auction, with spirited bidding for more than 100 items. A cheque for $100,000 was later presented to Unicef representative and 2005 Miss Hong Kong Tracy Ip Chui-chui.

Almost $68,000 was raised for Nesbitt Centre. Entertainment included singers Danny Diaz, Anders Nelsson and Infinity, Sharon Kwok Sau-wan and Anne Lo.

Among the guests were Bloomberg TV's Bernard Lo, chamber chairman Bernard Pouliot, artist Leona Apps, Canadian Consul-General Gerry Campbell and Perveen Crawford.
