Category winners of the South China Morning Post Student of the Year Awards have been announced.
This year's competition has been so keen that special recognitions were given in some categories.
Eleanor Morris, one of the judges for the Student Linguist of the Year Awards, was impressed by the high standard of the candidates.
'It was a very tough job this year as the standard of the students was very high,' said Mrs Morris, who has been judging the category for four years. 'We were delighted to see so many talented students.'
The judging was based on candidates' language abilities, their way of thinking, motivation to learn other languages and whether they can influence their peers to improve their language skills, said Mrs Morris, vice-president of the Children's Cancer Foundation.
'The kids excelled so brilliantly both in the written test and the interview. Their parents have provided them with a good learning environment,' she said.
Mrs Morris praised the all-round abilities of the winner, Michelle Lo Ka-man of St Paul's Co-educational College.
