Dining with dad

Few things are more fun than a good meal in good company

BUFFETS

Exchange Square is not necessarily the first location that springs to mind when considering a Sunday celebration. Nevertheless, One Bar is opening its doors on Father's Day for a Long Lunch Buffet ($150/adult, $75/child). An international spread of foods will include a carvery section of roast beef, ham and turkey, sushi and sashimi, dim sum and Middle Eastern kebabs, salads and dips, and a dessert buffet. Each dad will receive a pint of Stella on the house. The children's selection will include an array of treats such as marshmallows, jellies and crispy rice cakes. The buffet will run from midday to 5.30pm. Call 25222246.

Patio Coffee Shop (27346690) at the New World Renaissance Hotel in Kowloon will offer a Japanese dinner buffet ($318/adult, $218/child) with a gift pack for each father. The hotel's Lobby Lounge (27346650) will run a lychee tea buffet from 3.30pm to 6pm ($118/adult, $88/child).

An afternoon tea buffet in the Chater Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton ($208/adult, $140/child) offers Asian savouries, from marinated scallops with Asian spice to sushi with pickled ginger, and decadent desserts including crunchy chocolate cake and vanilla and linzer apple tart. Call 28776666.

BRUNCHES

Brunches are a good option, especially if you want a few bubbles thrown into the deal. A champagne brunch with a view ($348/adult, $208/child) is on offer at New World Renaissance continental restaurant Panorama (27346660) which includes unlimited house champagne, house wine and juice, a 15 per cent discount coupon for a next visit and a gift for fathers.

At The Cafe at The Ritz-Carlton, Sunday brunch takes on an international flavour with seafood, meats and plenty of desserts at the buffet stations. One section of The

Cafe will be given over to a golfing area with a putting green, where dads and their children can have a go. A golf instructor will be on hand for anyone in need of coaching. Brunch with free-flowing champagne costs $488, with fresh juice it costs $368, and $228 per child. Call 28776666.

Sunday brunch at Harbourside at the InterContinental Hong Kong ($538/adult, $348/child) includes unlimited Moet, wine, beer and juice. The buffet spread features seafood, sushi and sashimi, Asian noodles, oven pizzas and a dessert spread. Alternatively, a dinner buffet ($498/adult, $328/child) at the restaurant focuses on seafood and sushi, while the pastry team provides desserts in the form of waffles, souffles and crepes.

Brunches with unlimited bubbles will also run at Cafe Deco ($298), while at Top Deck the regular Sunday seafood brunch ($168) will be available.

SEAFOOD

The Place at Langham Place Hotel (35523200) will run a seafood feast (lunch: $195/adult, $118/child; dinner $335/adult, $185/child) throughout summer. Specialities include wok-fried razor clam with black bean sauce, black mussels in white wine sauce and baked oysters Kilpatrick or mornay style. Prices for Sunday sittings only.

CHINESE

Dynasty at the New World Renaissance Hotel (27346600) will offer three set menus for lunch and dinner. A four-person set menu costs $3,288; a six-person menu costs $2,988 to $3,388; and a 12-person menu costs $5,988 to $6,688.

At Ming Court (3552 3300) in Langham Place choose from a dim sum lunch or a nine or 11-course dinner menu. The nine-course menu costs $1,988 for six and $3,988 for 12 people, with dishes such as roasted suckling pig, fried rice with shrimps, and meat wrapped in a lotus leaf on the menu. The 11-course menu costs $2,488 for six and $4,988 for 12, and includes braised chicken with Chinese yellow wine and deep-fried cuttlefish balls filled with goose liver.

ETC

New York cheesecake and key lime pie are on the dessert menu. For a light snack, drop by the restaurant between 5pm and 7pm for Mortini Night where classic martinis, cosmopolitans, Negroni and chocolate martinis cost $55 each. Filet mignon sandwiches are served free during the promotion.
