Enlightening experience

I ATTENDED a concert in St John's Cathedral on Tuesday night.

It was a most enlightening experience.

And I'm sure many others felt the full spectrum of emotions I was feeling as I sat in the overflowing cathedral.

For two hours, the noise of traffic, the rush of people and the constant movement of Hong Kong stopped and enveloped me in the true sense of peace, joy and love of this special evening.

The voices of the Hong Kong Welsh Male Voice choir; the unaccompanied voices of the Filipino Fellowship Choir of which their leader asked those present ''to listen to the words we sing not how we sing'', and the Medical Association Orchestra playing a selection of classical pieces with a hauntingly beautiful solo by the harpist; the tree of life, alight with so many white lights which signified the memories of friends and loved ones who have died of cancer; the words of Dr Bee Wee, Medical Officer at Bradbury Hospice Sha Tin, in referring to caring for the terminally ill, '' . . . Those of us who are privileged to be a part of this experience often feel humbled by the knowledge that we receive so much more than we can give. We learn so much about caring and sharing, about sorting out what really matters in life from these patients and their families..''; All these will leave me and many others who attended the evening with a feeling of security and gratitude for all who serve and are served by hospices.
