Sightseers rescued in boat drama

Mainland sightseers are rescued from their sinking high-speed boat yesterday after a collision with a Macau-Hong Kong ferry in heavy rain and choppy seas. Rescuers saved two crewmen who fell from the stricken boat as it began to sink in Zhuhai waters following the collision, but no one was injured in the accident. Fifty sightseers and crew from the Dong Qu Yi Hao leapt onto inflatable rafts and transferred to the New World First Ferry and other boats that came to their rescue. The collision occurred in heavy rain at 10.15am, 15 minutes after the ferry, which suffered slight damage to its starboard bow, left Macau. Marine authorities said the accident may have been caused by bad weather. The ferry was taken to Zhuhai for examination by marine authorities, while the damaged chartered tourist boat remained stranded at the scene of the accident last night.
