Bright skin care products

So-called 'intelligent' products are the latest in sun protection, promising to protect against harmful rays and provide anti-ageing benefits.

The Clarins laboratory says it has identified the factor responsible for photo-ageing caused by the sun's rays, and has neutralised it in its new sun care products.

According to the brand, the products protect DNA found in the core of the cells and in the mitochondria, or the cells' 'lungs' - which ultimately provide better protection against wrinkles and slackening of the skin.

A new Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour cream ($210) was launched this week, and a Sun Wrinkle Control cream with an SPF15 and 30 factor ($210 each), and a Sun Control Stick ($190) for sensitive areas, were launched earlier this month. Available at IFC, Festival Walk and Telford Plaza.

Sunleya SPF15 ($1,300) from Sisley cosmetics is also new. Sisley says the product allows 10 per cent of the sun's rays to reach the skin, which encourages the skin to activate its own natural photo-protection system. This allows the skin to block melanin and thicken the outer layer of the skin. A combination of plant, mineral and vitamin ingredients will neutralise free radicals generated by the UV rays, according to Sisley. The lotion also contains moisturising properties to keep the skin hydrated. Available at Lane Crawford counters.

Babor has launched a Sun Care System line which contains a Skin Protection Complex SPC+. According to the brand, the product essentially works from within the skin (instead of on the surface) at the point where UV rays morph from 'peaceful' molecules into aggressive free radicals. Ingredients in the Complex trap the free radicals, delaying the ageing process and regenerating skin. The product range includes protection from SPF10 to SPF40+ and after-sun care products with prices starting from $198.
