Luxury hotel in search of a good communicator

A luxury hotel is seeking an expert communicator with impressive skills and appropriate business contacts to promote the image of the hotel internally and externally.

The JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong is screening candidates for the position of director of communications.

The successful candidate will plan, direct, control, co-ordinate and participate in all communications activities, with an emphasis on public relations.

Applicants should have excellent verbal and written language skills with the know-how to develop strong relationships with local and international media.

Some travel in the region is required, as is the participation in press events and trips organised by the regional public relations offices.

Internally, the new director will work closely with the director of marketing and an external advertising agency on tactical advertising campaigns and creative media plans for the promotion of the hotel's rooms and food and beverage outlets.

'The hotel is looking for someone who is respected by the local media and who is well connected to the social and business community,' Vivien Zee, assistant to the director of marketing, said.

High energy levels and consistent creativity are needed as the role requires a lot of socialising and planning of 'talk-of-the-town' events and promotions.

The director of communications will need to be a strong team player and have good organisational skills to handle many projects simultaneously.

'Candidates who are actively involved in the industry, professional associations and in charity and community work are preferred,' Ms Zee said.

A university degree or higher is a prerequisite, as is a minimum of three years of relevant experience, preferably in the hotel industry.

Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is necessary and fluency in Cantonese is preferred.

Applicants will also need to be outgoing and should enjoy interacting with people of all backgrounds.
