Lovely to look at and nicer to touch, velvet is everywhere this winter. Crushed, shot or seamed in warm winter colours, there are few fabrics as rich, sumptuous or downright romantic.
Velvet nap cries out for opulent jewellery. Its dull gleam enhances the lustre of pearls and the sheen of gold. And while styles vary from the extravagant to the spartan - clinging sheaths and empire-waisted dresses, body suits and shirts - it is the simple shapes which win the day.
