Paws for thought

Has Chrome Hearts, the jeweller of choice for wealthy goths, chic punks, trendsetters and famous rockers, gone all touchy-feely? Not content with producing its edgy sterling-silver jewellery, distressed denim and wife-beater T-shirts, not to mention butcher knives and dark leather sofas, the brand has branched out into ... teddy bears. But Chrome Hearts fans, who include rock stars Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, Lenny Kravitz and Cher and fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld, should not be concerned about a loss of street credibility. These are not the kind of cuddly, cutesy bears to buy a newborn. Crosses on the sterling-silver eyes give the bears a whacked-out expression, while the ears are folded inwards like those of an aggressive dog. Each has been designed by the label's founder, Richard Stark, and handmade in materials such as calf leather, suede, sheepskin and rabbit fur.

Available in three sizes, the two larger models sport the brand's signature fleur-de-lis dagger necklace. Prices range from $4,250 to $8,500 and higher - customers can order a bespoke bear. Chrome Hearts is at G31, Prince's Building, Central, tel: 2810 6932.
