boc proves there's no mountain high enough for the brave
Anyone who does not climb the Great Wall is not a real hero, according to a famous saying.
Bank of China obviously agrees. Last weekend, it invited the sponsors and bankers who worked on its recent Hong Kong initial public offering to Beijing for a five-hour morning walk along the most beautiful stretch of the wall, the section from Jian Kou to Mu Tianyu.
The bank's vice-president Zhu Xinqiang set out at the head of the column which departed at 8am. At the end of the trail a slap-up meal awaited them.
These Great Wall outings are becoming routine at BOC. A similar odyssey took place to mark the stock market debut of BOCHK four years ago.
Those who rose to the latest challenge were rewarded with a T-shirt bearing the legend Project Splendor which we understand was the codename for the BOC listing.
