With little fanfare, Hotel LKF has had a soft opening in Central. If you've been taking its elevator to avoid walking up from D'Aguilar to Wyndham Street, you've probably seen gradual changes to its lobby area over the past few months.

Even though final touches are still being made, the main designer, Antony Chan (right) of Cream, told us the boutique hotel should have all its parts in place within a month.

'We designed pretty much everything from the lobby to the guest rooms, apart from the top-floor restaurant. That is by Andre Fu,' he said.

'When I first started designing, I wasn't given a specific style to go for. It was all through discussions that we decided on a design direction. There were some specific functional requests, like having an espresso coffee-maker and other products in each room, to make it special.

'Lan Kwai Fong is very dynamic, so when you go into the hotel, I want a transformation while still being conscious of the energy outside. Ultimately, if you're staying there, you're not anticipating the ultimate tranquility. You're looking for an energy.'
