What is fatty liver?

What It is the accumulation of excess fat in the liver. But if the fat is more than 5 to 10 per cent of a person's liver's weight, then they have fatty liver.

Causes Alcohol abuse, obesity, or high triglycerides - a type of fat found in the blood. It may also be genetic or the result of poor diet, starvation, lack of exercise and taking of fat-lowering drugs.

Symptoms No symptoms on its own.

Diagnosis Blood test or a doctor may notice the liver is slightly enlarged. The only way to know for sure is to get a liver biopsy, in which the doctor removes a sample of liver tissue with a needle and checks it under a microscope.

What to do The condition is reversible. So lose weight. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Avoid alcohol. Do more exercise.
