Sixteen people were injured - four seriously - after a double-decker bus struck the back of a container truck on Kwai Chung Road, local media reported on Monday.

At least three bus passengers were thrown off the road following the collision, local radio reported.

The accident took place at 10.30am when the KMB No. 67X bus was travelling along the New-Territories-bound lane near the Kwai Chung Container Terminal.

It failed to avoid the container truck, which had stopped in front.
Another lorry failed to brake in time and hit the bus from behind.

The injured were rushed to three hospitals. Four were in a critical or serious condition, local radio reported.

Local TV showed the front part of the bus was seriously damaged. The windscreens of the upper and lower decks were shattered. A dozen ambulancemen treated the injured at the scene.

The New Territories lane of the road was closed until 1pm for police investigations.
