Man attacks wife and child then jumps to his death

Updated at 2.09pm: A 52-year-old welfare recipient on Tuesday cut his throat and then jumped to his death - after attacking his wife and daughter with a knife in their Ho Man Tin home.

Police said they received a report of the incident shortly before 6.30am. A spokesman said police learnt that a woman and girl had been injured inside a unit in Tun Man House of Oi Man Estate and a man had jumped from the flat.

The woman, 48, who was the man's wife, was found with a knife wound to her chin when officers arrived, the spokesman said.

The 11-year-old girl, who was the man's daughter, suffered multiple cut wounds to her body.

The 52-year-old man was found lying unconscious on the ground floor of the apartment block. He had lacerations to his throat. A knife was found inside the flat, the spokesman said.

The three were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but the man was certified dead at 7.13am.

The spokesman said inquiries showed the couple had a dispute before the tragedy.

A neighbour told local radio he heard a woman shouting for help. He said he heard a loud noise then saw the woman lying in a pool of blood.

Another witness quoted by Ming Pao Daily said the man had attacked his daughter with a knife. The woman was injured attempting to stop him.

The 52-year-old then slashed himself before jumping, the witness said.

Local radio reported that the girl was in critical condition. It said her mother's condition was stable.

Investigations by District Crime Squad of Kowloon City were continuing on Tuesday afternoon.

A post-mortem would be conducted on the man to confirm cause of death, the spokesman added.
