Kevin Cheng on fast track to new opportunities

He doesn't mind plugging a nice new ride but actor-singer Kevin Cheng Ka-wing is happy to admit he's no car buff. The popular star launched a new BMW coupe last week in Tsim Sha Tsui, drawing appreciative shrieks and screams from fans shopping in the area.

Cheng's career is definitely his main priority at the moment: he recently declared he will become a vocal apprentice with Taiwanese composer Liu Jia-chang. In fact, the TVB regular confessed to CitySeen he has pretty much left behind the hot-rod phase of his life.

'I got my US licence when I was 19 so I've been driving for over 10 years now,' he said. 'I like driving to work but I won't buy expensive sports cars to reward myself.

'Plus, one time when I was in college in America, I drove with some friends from L.A. to Las Vegas.

'The highway patrol caught me speeding. The fine was calculated according to how long I'd been speeding, and a police helicopter waited two hours before pulling me over. My ticket was over US$700. I learned my lesson.'
