World female speed-eating champion Sonya Thomas can eat 44 lobsters in 12 minutes and 65 boiled eggs in six minutes and 40 seconds.

But there are things the Korean-American will refuse to touch when she comes to Hong Kong next month.

She will not eat anything weird and, definitely, under no circumstances, will she ever eat frogs' legs or - heaven forbid - dog meat.

'I am not crazy about that, but I understand that it's popular in China,' said the speed-eater, who calls herself the Black Widow after the spider whose females are larger and more colourful than the males that they eat.

Thomas is ranked first for 'competitive eating' for both men and women in the US.

Among men in the world, her publicists say, she is second only to Japan's Takeru Kobayashi, whom she describes as her 'role model for putting competitive eating on the map'.

Kobayashi, who set the world record by eating 533/4 hot dogs in 12 minutes, last year won an eating contest at Whampoa Plaza, Hunghom.
