We are all different and have different interests

If you really want to know how your friends are feeling, don't talk to them about exams or schoolwork. Ask them about themselves.

I knew two girls who enjoyed studying. Both got good results in exams. But all they could talk about was schoolwork.

Since they didn't know how to communicate with others, they soon lost all their friends.

We should do well in our studies, but I think friendship is more important.

KELLY LAU HIU-FUNG

Our Lady of the Rosary College The HKCEE results will be released tomorrow and for those who sat the important public exams, they will be able to think of little else for the next few days! Of course, we must be sensitive when talking to people about their exam results - this is a very stressful time for many people.

But I understand that in your letter, Kelly, you are talking about people who discuss exams and schoolwork to the exclusion of everything else throughout the year. I agree with you that talking about other subjects would make for a more balanced and enjoyable conversation. But we should also respect that everyone is different.

Our friends reflect our interests - right now, for the two girls, the most important thing is their school work.
