1973: Graduated with a higher diploma in industrial design from Hong Kong Polytechnic and worked as an architectural design assistant

1975: Joined an advertising agency and set up his own design studio Creation House; he later moved to other advertising agencies

1981: Left his full-time job and concentrated on his own projects

2000: Invited by Hongkong Post to design a set of commemorative stamps for the 2000 Olympic Games

2005: Designed the logo for the sixth ministerial conference of the World Trade Organisation

How to get there

Programme: BA (Hons) in Design

School: Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Duration: Three years

Characteristics: The course includes advertising, graphics, interior design, products and animation


Programme: Higher Diploma in Advertising, Packaging and Branding

School: Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education

Duration: Three years

Characteristics: Students learn about information technology, advanced media concepts, consumer behaviour, mass communication and advertising techniques


The path

Design assistant (fresh graduate; helps the designers with their ideas; salary $6,000-$8,000)

Junior graphic designer (with one to three years' experience; handles assignments more independently but still supervised by seniors; salary $10,000-$15,000)

Senior graphic designer (with five to eight years' experience; brainstorms for design ideas; salary around $20,000)

Creative director/art director (Negotiating with and reporting to clients; salary over $30,000)
