SAND CITY RISES IN NEW TOWN PLAZA

There are some very impressive sand castles at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin. That's right, inside the mall's Atrium Gallery (first floor, Phase 3) are 30 tonnes of sand transformed into sculptures based on elements of the Brothers Grimm's original Snow White (hence, no Dopey, Sneezy or Doc). The castles were created by four Dutch sand-sculpting maestros from the World Sculpting Association.

They've also invited Israeli sand-drawing artist Ilana Yahav this weekend to do live performances of her sand drawing, using only her fingers accompanied by music and lighting. These take place at 4pm and 6.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Snow White sculptures will remain on display until August 27, unless the emergency fire sprinkler system goes berserk.
