The more you speak, the better you will get

Schools have put more emphasis on public speaking in recent years. This improves our presentation skills and will be useful at job interviews.

Here are some suggestions on how to give a good speech. You should not speak too loud or too fast. Explain your ideas clearly, along with examples.

Use suitable vocabulary and be careful about pronunciation. Stress and rhythm are also very important.

You should have eye contact with the audience and use body language. At the end of the speech, remember to thank the listeners.

Shun Lee Catholic Secondary School Thank you for your letter, Monie, and the excellent advice about how to give a good presentation.

Schools now recognise the importance of being able to express yourself well. It will help you whether you are working in a small team or managing a big company.

You have covered all the main points, Monie, about speech-giving - all that remains is to practise, and keep practising.

To begin with, most people find standing in front of a large group of people daunting. Once you are used to that, you will be able to focus more on how you present yourself and your ideas.
