Fine food and good vibes make a great cocktail

FINDS

Fine dining and a party atmosphere create a unique cocktail at Scandinavian bar and restaurant FINDS in Lan Kwai Fong. While guests quietly contemplate their meals, the bar buzzes with the happy chatter of the after-work martini crowd.

The wintery theme of the decor creates a distinctly Nordic ambience, made all the more authentic by the range of Scandinavian staples on Finnish chef Jaakko Sorsa's main menu.

Starters include chilled, white, foamy tomato soup served with a bite-sized portion of crayfish on toast (HK$88). The colour of the soup belies its identity, while a hint of dill confirms its Scandinavian pedigree and enhances its refreshing flavour.

The salad of home-made herb cheese with baby tomatoes, rocket and broken wheat vinaigrette (HK$118) is a delicate yet delicious combination. A few surprise ingredients help make it a surprisingly interesting salad.

For mains, Sorsa's Norwegian-influenced house-smoked salmon (HK$220) is a wise choice. Cured with imported wood-chips, the salmon is lightly grilled and melts in the mouth. The foundation of baby potatoes and mushrooms creates a perfectly balanced signature dish.

Another classic meal, this time from Sweden, is the veal Wallenberger (HK$220), a juicy, delicious veal patty served with extra-smooth mash, peas, French beans, lingonberry jelly and red wine sauce. The hearty and wholesome Wallenberger is one of the most popular dishes at FINDS.

Regional breads and crispbreads are served throughout the meal.

The dessert menu revolves around fruit and berries. The sauteed and marinated strawberries with cardamom crumble and yoghurt ice-cream (HK$92) rejuvenate the palate and provide a happy conclusion to the meal.

FINDS also offers vegetarian dishes and a casual menu of open-faced sandwiches (HK$88), salads, soups and scapas - Scandinavian tapas (HK$38-HK$78).

The restaurant has an outside terrace and a cocktail bar, and DJs play live from Thursday to Saturday. Customers seeking a quiet meal may prefer to visit FINDS earlier in the week.

Originally aimed at the city's European expatriates, FINDS has found great popularity among local Chinese customers, and with its well-conceived blend of fine food and good vibes, it's not difficult to see why.
