Cheesy Shayne only for true pop fans
By Judy Ngao
This self-titled album is the first for the winner of British reality TV show The X-Factor 2005.
If you are a fan of pop music, or, more importantly, a fan of cheesy love songs, then you will probably enjoy this. The songs on the album have simple, brainless lyrics about 'love', and nothing else.
Ward tries hard to sound sincere, but the lyrics are too shallow to make much of an impression. Even if you have just had your heart torn out and stomped on, the album will still fail to touch you.
Ward's vocal range is average, but a few tracks on the album are tolerable - That's My Goal and Next To Me.
The middle tracks are a waste of time.
I Cry is an especially painful track to get through.
The album was recorded in Stockholm, Copenhagen and London, with the help of some famous pop producers and writers.
The 13-track album includes the two hit singles, That's My Goal and No Promises. The second single is currently very popular in Hong Kong, and is riding high on many local download charts including the RTHK chart and Metro Broadcast Radio. But don't be fooled into thinking the album will offer anything other than mediocrity.
