Shenhua fed up with Jancker
Former Germany international Carsten Jancker has been told to shape up if he wants any kind of future in the Chinese Super League after another lacklustre display yesterday, which saw the 32-year-old Shanghai Shenhua star sent off in a match against visiting Shenyang Ginde.
'I was dismayed at Jancker's failure to control his temper,'' said an angry Shenhua manager Wu Jingui, whose team had to settle for a 0-0 draw. 'That mistake was inexcusable and fatal to our game plan.'
Jancker, who joined Shenhua three months ago, was involved in an altercation with Shenyang defender Wang Suolong shortly before half-time, leaving the referee no choice but to send both players off. The German, whose six-month contract is worth Euro500,000 (HK$5 million) had only just come back from a leg injury, which had seen him idle for most of the first two months of his stint with Shenhua.
Last night's result meant Shenhua had to concede second spot in the standings to Beijing Hyundai. Shandong Luneng head the table by a massive 15 points.
