Korean director's path to fame

Bong Joon-ho (left) is a graduate of the Korean Academy of Film Arts.

His first major film, the comedy Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), won the FIPRESCI Award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

His second feature film, Memories of Murder (2003), is a crime thriller that follows a group of detectives hunting South Korea's first serial killer. The film won Bong a best director award in Korea.

The Host is his third feature film, a monster movie with a unique Korean flavour. It opens in Hong Kong on September 14.
