Shandong Luneng were crowned Chinese Super League champions last night after a 1-0 win over Beijing Hyundai in front of 50,000 people at the Jinan Stadium, the highest attendance for a match this season. Shandong clinched the title with six rounds still remaining, despite their nearest rivals, Changchun Yatai, thrashing Shenzhen Kingway 3-0 earlier in the day. Shandong are 20 points ahead of Changchun.

China international Han Peng grabbed Shandong's winner just three minutes into the match, slotting home a Zheng Zhi free-kick.

Shandong, whose only other league title came in 1999, are now aiming to make it a double celebration when they meet International Xi'an in the second leg of their FA Cup semi-final on Friday. They won the first leg 3-1.
