Minibus association head beaten up
The head of a minibus association was attacked by two men with metal bars in Shamshuipo yesterday. Leung Hung, 70, chairman of the Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories Public and Maxicab Light Bus Merchants United Association, was returning to his office when he was attacked in the ground-floor lift lobby, police said. Police mounted a search but no one was arrested. Mr Leung was treated in hospital and discharged.
Two brothers and sister on HK$61m fraud charge
Three siblings have been charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption with conspiracy to defraud the judiciary over a HK$61 million contract. Lui Mei-chi, 41, shareholder, director and contract manager of Megaluck International, sister Lui Mei-chong, 40, also a shareholder and director, and brother Lui Yuen-fai, 36, an assistant contract manager, will appear in Sha Tin Court tomorrow. They are accused of conspiring to defraud the judiciary on July 15, 2004, by making a dishonest representation to a judiciary tender assessment panel.
Five arrested following youth centre knife attack
Five men have been arrested over a knife attack on six youngsters at the Dawn Society youth centre in Chai Wan. The arrests were made on Tuesday and yesterday after the attack on Monday night. The men, aged 18 to 31, were held for questioning but no charges have been laid. Police said the attack took place hours after one of the victims, a 21-year-old man, had a dispute with suspected triad members on the street.
Burglars grab HK$70,000 in assault on 58-year-old
A 58-year-old man was robbed of HK$70,000 and assaulted by three burglars when he returned to his flat in Tsuen Wan yesterday. The incident occurred at Fortune Court, Tsuen Wan Garden, on Castle Peak Road, shortly after 11am. The victim suffered head injuries. No arrests have been made.
Nightspot raids net 37
Police have arrested 37 suspected mainland prostitutes during raids on entertainment venues in Mongkok. Officers raided 36 sites in a six-hour operation. Eleven of the women are illegal immigrants.
