Teacher had sex with girl, 12, he met online

A physical education and Chinese teacher admitted having sex with a 12-year-old girl he met over the internet after police launched a chat-room sting to arrest him.

Chung Yui-hung, 38, yesterday pleaded guilty in the District Court to unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, and possessing child pornography.

The court heard that Chung, a teacher in Tin Shui Wai, cultivated a friendship with the girl over the ICQ instant-messaging service in November last year.

Government counsel Teresa Kam Yuk told the court Chung - who operated under the alias Alex and claimed to be a 24-year-old man - visited the girl at her home on December 12 last year after she told him she was home alone. Shortly after arriving, he had sex with the girl and left.

The girl later phoned her 'godbrother', telling him she had been sexually abused and was afraid of getting pregnant, Ms Kam said. The girl told her mother that night and a report was made to police.

On January 13, police set up an ICQ account under the name 'Amy Wong'. Posing as a 15-year-old girl, they chatted with Chung, who was using the name 'Norman'.

Chung agreed to meet 'Amy' at Telford Garden, Kowloon Bay, on January 25 with a view to having sex, Ms Kam said, adding that Chung was later arrested.

The next day, police seized six files of child pornography from Chung's computer.

Ms Kam said the exchanges on ICQ between Chung and the 12-year-old girl were of an expressly sexual nature. She submitted transcripts of the messages to the judge for further consideration.

Chung's defence barrister, Ian Polson, told the court his client did not receive gratification from watching child pornography.

Judge David Lok adjourned sentencing to September 21.
