Lam Pui-lun, 83, gets a new hairdo, one of about 140 elderly people who enjoyed the treat before they were driven to the Smart Identity Card Centre in Causeway Bay to apply for their smart cards yesterday.

St James' Settlement, which arranged for the services, said these elderly people lived alone, were neglected, had financial difficulty or had physical trouble travelling.

They needed help in getting their smart cards as they did not know how to register online or book through the telephone, said Chan Ping-lun, a spokesman for the charitable group, which will also collect the cards.
