Telstra gets cable TV bids

TELSTRA, Australia's leading domestic and international telecommunications company, has received seven bids from Australian and foreign companies to supply an end-to-end cable television system.

Telstra managing director for network products Gerry Moriarty said the bids had been accepted following the earlier receipt of 21 registrations of interest.

Mr Moriarty said he was pleased with the amount of interest in Telstra's proposal and a special task force would immediately begin analysing the bids.

Telstra would probably complete its assessment of all bid and decide on a winning tender by early March.
