Beat fear of flying - plane and simple
Sebastian Lim has suffered from a fear of flying for more than a decade. As his job was about to demand regular business travel, he thought he would give hypnosis a shot.
He sat down with a hypnotherapist a few weeks ago, and is awaiting his next trip with much less trepidation. The process was very simple: the pair started by having a long chat about his fear, how it had evolved, and how he felt at that worst moment of panic.
The hypnotherapist then asked Lim to think of how he felt at that awful moment, to imagine himself in that environment again and describe what was happening.
He was then asked to imagine himself relaxed and calm on the flight, happily oblivious to any danger. What's more, he was also enjoying the process.
After another discussion about what had created the fear, he was asked to repeat the process again - imagining himself on a plane. This time, he could feel the fear had diminished.
His confidence is higher, and with a trip coming up, Lim doesn't have the same anxiety levels he had in the past.
'I'm hoping to have conquered this fear - I don't feel as nervous at the thought,' he says.
