Man arrested for throwing furniture from 11th floor

A foreign man with a history of mental illness was arrested after hurling furniture and other household items out of his Mid-Levels flat.


Police received a report about 11.30am yesterday of falling objects at the Realty Gardens estate in Conduit Road. Officers arrived to find a large quantity of broken furniture and sundries on the ground.


Police confirmed that three tables and a tea tray had been thrown from the flat, and witnesses also reported broken chairs, a flower pot and CDs. The objects broke a glass roof covering a walkway. Police said the objects were thrown from the 11th floor.


Officers went to the unit and arrested a 33-year-old man named King. His nationality was not disclosed. He was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for examination.


Police said he had a history of mental illness. Sources said the man went on the rampage after breaking up with his girlfriend. No one was injured in the incident.


In March last year, a 22-year-old man, also with a history of mental illness, tossed television sets, a microwave oven and other appliances out of his Tin Shui Wai home.
