Draw keeps Kitchee in top spot

Leaders Kitchee kept top spot in the Coolpoint Ventilation Hong Kong First Division after holding former champions Xiangxue Sun Hei to a 3-3 draw at Mongkok Stadium yesterday.

In a match that saw both teams reduced to 10 men, Sun Hei's Victor Inegbenoise equalised in the 70th minute to share the spoils after Wilfred Bamnjo had put Kitchee 3-2 up in the 48th minute.

Sun Hei's Lee Wai-lun was first given his marching orders when he picked up his second yellow card in the 66th minute and Kitchee's mainland defender Gao Wen was also sent off six minutes before time as the ambitious club stayed at the front of the pack in the table on 28 points - two points ahead of South China.

Sun Hei moved up a place to fifth position - one point ahead of champions Happy Valley, who were held to a goalless draw by Rangers in an earlier match.

Kitchee's Chan Siu-ki put his team ahead with a 30th minute strike, before Sun Hei's Brazilian forward Fladimir Freitas equalised. Chu Siu-kei got Sun Hei's second goal, but Keith Gumbs scored just before the break to draw Kitchee level 2-2 going into the break.

Rangers stayed in third place on 20 points, six points behind South China, but one point clear of Lanwa Redbull.
